A hub wheel holds the buttons and electronics, and the rim bolts on in front. That makes it easy to switch between a round rim for rally or drifting and a smaller GT or formula rim for circuit racing.
Rims unlock in your build once you've chosen a hub style steering wheel, so you only add rims for the hub you're actually using.
Rims cost €80–€300 depending on size and whether they include built-in buttons and a display. A smaller formula rim suits tight cockpits, while a round or D-shaped rim gives more room for paddle shifters.
