On console, a shifter usually connects through the wheel base, so it should match your base's brand. On PC most shifters connect over USB and work with any setup.
Shifters typically cost €80–€250, with sequential-only units at the lower end and dual-mode H-pattern/sequential shifters at the higher end. Mount it on the side of your dominant shifting hand, and leave room next to it if you plan to add a handbrake later.
